‘Leicester’s Cosmopolitan Carnival’
Saturday 29th August 2015 – 2.00pm-9.00pm
Leicester City Centre: Jubilee Square, High Street, BBC Radio Leicester and Cathedral Gardens.
CELEBRATING LEICESTER BEING ONE OF THE MOST CULTURAL DIVERSE CITIES IN THE COUNTRY….
Be prepared to be dazzled and amazed as the city centre
is set to come alive with the sound of live music, dance,
art and much more, to showcase the astounding creative
talents and vibrant cultural mix within Leicester.
According to the census in 2011, Leicester is one of the
most culturally diverse cities in the country,
Cosmopolitan Arts are celebrating this through
hosting the Cosmopolitan Carnival a FREE arts event
within the city centre, bringing different cultures
together through every imaginable art form, to break
down racial barriers and create more cultural
Councillor Manjula Sood Assistant City Mayor for
Community Involvement, Partnerships & Equalities, shall
open the event on the main stage in Jubilee Square,
which shall be compered by BBC Radio Leicester.
The main stage will showcase some of the best bands
from Leicester, catering for different cultures and tastes.
The line up includes:
‘The Paradimes’, who supported ‘Lee Scratch Perry’ at
the O2 Academy Leicester, the members have played with
prestigious bands such as: ‘Toots and the Maytals’,
‘Symarip’, ‘Amy Winehouse’ and even the ‘Rolling Stones’.
Penultimately well known New Zealand band ‘Sola Rosa
Sound-system’ are performing as part of their European
tour, their most recent album ‘Magnetics’ was the winner
of iTunes best soul and R&B album 2014.
We also have a host of amazing well-known local bands
from venues in Leicester as part of the City Music Stage:
‘Flight 15’ – The Shed, ‘Clubs’ – The Cookie Jar, ‘Full Shilling’ – Duffys Bar, ‘Harrow Brooks’ – Sound House, ‘Outwood Country Riders’ – The Musician and ‘Goldwater’ – Firebug.
The Garden stage area situated in Cathedral Gardens
will showcase the best local talent from Leicester.
The line up will include cultural mix of well-known
artists: ‘The Orator’ and ‘The Rhetoric Poetry Society’ will
compere the stage and perform some inspiring spoken word,
‘Shaomin Zhang, Xiao Tan, Qiming Hu’, musicians from
the Confucius Institute at De Montfort University Leicester,
will perform Chinese folk music. Hilarious ‘Billy and Jody’s
Acoustic Experience’ promises to be very entertaining, well-
known comedians ‘Ian and Lindsay’, the dynamic comedy
duo shall bring family fun to the stage, ‘Kainé Mass Choir’
will sooth with harmonious gospel, ‘Hari Trivedi’ will be
performing melodic tabla, rap music shall be presented by
‘Jonezy’, ‘Ayolah Hanley’ will bring soulful tunes, ‘Angelica
Baylor’ is flying in from Atlanta, USA will uplift with some
rhythmic American R&B and ‘Paulo Carnoth’ will be
rounding off this stage on a high with his amazing
The High Street will come alive with amazing dance
performances from a variety of different cultural styles
and genres. Including: belly dancing, salsa, samba,
break-dance, Irish dance, Bollywood, traditional Asian
dance, martial arts, a Chinese lion dance and much
‘The Magna Music Band’ a full brass band will be
performing throughout the day and ‘Talent Match’

On the ground floor of ‘BBC Radio Leicester’ there
will be an art gallery featuring local cultural artwork
and cultural art installation piece will decorate Jubilee
Square and a variety of arts based workshops including:
African drumming, Chinese lantern making and
Calligraphy, ‘Mela Arts’ will be hosting a Rangoli arts
workshop with a famous International Rangoli artist
‘Janak Chauhan’, ‘Soft-touch’ – ‘Bloom In New Parks’
flower festival with arts activities, Arts In Leicestershire will
host ‘Presenting Yourself in Music’ workshop at BBC
Radio Leicester, printing workshop for all the family,
mask making and circus skills workshop amongst many
more amazing activities for all the family on the day.
There will also be a small selection of stalls selling
artistic merchandise and lots of activities for children.
The grand finale to the day shall culminate in a film
projection performance at dusk, the film features local
cultural dance groups and musicians edited with a
cultural fusion dance track and animation. This film will
be projected onto BBC Radio Leicester, a spectacular
dance and fire performance by the ‘Dance Select
Agency’ shall accompany this along with lasers and
