CELEBRATING THE DAWNING OF THE YEAR OF THE ROOSTER, HOSTING FREE DAZZLING TRADITIONAL CHINESE NEW YEAR PERFORMANCES, ARTS AND ACTIVES.

The Chinese New Year festival will Celebrate the year of the rooster, hosting an impressive line up of traditional Chinese: live music, dance and art. The event will be based mainly within the Highcross Leicester, hosting a performance area and traditional arts workshops. There will also be a beautiful Chinese lantern display at the Clock Tower with traditional dance performances throughout the day.

ITSWA was formed in Leicester in 1964 and now has branches and clubs throughout the UK, Europe and South Africa, shall be performing. They specialise in Wing Chun Kung Fu, Tai Chi Chuan, Praying Mantis Kung Fu, Qigong and Lion Dance Arts, of which they will perform throughout the day.
There will be dazzling performances from Chinese students studying at De Montfort University, local school children who have worked with the Confucius Institute and also professional artists. They will perform traditional songs including Beijing Opera, dance, Taiji boxing, Tai Ji Fan and a performance of the origins of Chinese New Year and its long established traditions, amongst many other exciting activities.
The Chinese Christian Church Leicester, will be singing Chinese Songs including traditional Cantonese Opera.
Euphoria is a traditional Chinese instrument band, showcasing a variety of Chinese music styles.
The Confucius Institute will be delivering a series of free traditional Chinese crafts workshops including: calligraphy, paper cutting, Chinese traditional games, traditional costumes and food, they will be joined by the local Chinese community who will also demonstrate traditional Chinese arts and crafts originated from many East Asian locations.
This vibrant and dazzling family friendly event is free, come along to celebrate the year of the rooster with the East Asian community, learn about their beautiful and fascinating culture, it promises to be a great day out.
